3. Material Selection: Material selection considers both aesthetics and the instrument’s sound properties. Different wood species like mahogany, maple, or walnut may be used for the body and neck. Components such as metal parts and electronics are also chosen.
4. Crafting the Body and Neck: Wooden blanks are processed and shaped according to the design. This may involve handcrafting wood using various tools and techniques such as milling, sanding, and carving.
5. Assembly and Component Installation: At this stage, all guitar parts are assembled. Pickups, bridge, tuners, and other components are installed with precision and ergonomics in mind. This is crucial as proper component installation affects the instrument’s sound and playability.
6. Finishing: After assembly, the guitar undergoes a finishing process, including sanding, painting, or coating with lacquer to protect the wood and achieve the desired aesthetic.
7. Setup and Testing: Once assembly is complete, the instrument is set up to desired sound characteristics. This includes adjusting string height, final intonation checks, and pickup adjustments. Sound tests are conducted to ensure the instrument meets the client’s expectations and has high-quality sound.
